Firearms Regulation Changes Effective 2026

Firearms Regulation Changes Effective 2026

Beginning in 2026, the Minnesota Legislature has repealed the statewide shotgun-only restriction, allowing the use of rifles for hunting across the state.

Counties that were previously part of the shotgun-only zone have the option to adopt local ordinances to maintain those restrictions. Todd County has reviewed this option and will align with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and allow the use of rifles consistent with the updated state regulations.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow all applicable state hunting laws and safety guidelines.
